World Environment Day Celebration 2025 At Lapkaman Lake
In observance of World Environment Day 2025, Sabarmati University took a significant step towards promoting environmental awareness and sustainability. The event was held on 5th June 2025 at the serene Lapkaman Lake in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This year’s global theme — “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally” — served as the central focus for the day’s activities. The event was organized by National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell, Sabarmati University
- Objectives:
- To spread awareness about environmental protection.
- To take action against plastic pollution.
- To encourage students and volunteers to engage in sustainable practices.
- To contribute to reforestation and urban greenery.
Major Activities:
1. Plantation Drive:
Under the guidance of the NSS Cell of Sabarmati University, a massive plantation drive was successfully conducted. A total of 200 saplings were planted around the lake vicinity. The species included: Neem, Mango, Palash, Jamun, Arjun, Champa, Karan, among others.
These plant varieties were carefully chosen for their environmental benefits such as air purification, soil conservation, and biodiversity support.
2. Cleanliness Drive:
In alignment with the theme, volunteers also undertook a plastic segregation and cleanliness drive around the lake premises. Plastic waste and non-biodegradable materials were collected and separated for proper disposal, ensuring the area was left cleaner and more eco-friendly.
Participation:
A large number of NSS volunteers, faculty members, and local community members actively took part in the event, showcasing their commitment to environmental conservation. The collective effort demonstrated the spirit of community service and environmental responsibility.
Outcome:
The event resulted in:
