The XX International Sociological Association (ISA) World Congress of Sociology Conference on Resurgent Authoritarianism: Sociology of New Entanglements of Religions, Politics and Economies was held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, Melbourne, Australia- June 25-July 1, 2023 organized by School of Social and Political Sciences, John Medley Building, University of Melbourne in association with The Australia Sociological Association (TASA).

The delegates from worldwide had participated in the conference. The main theme of the conference was Resurgent Authoritarianism: Sociology of New Entanglements of Religions, Politics and Economies. The topics and subtopics related to the conference theme are also there but not limited to Sociology. The programme was covered Presidential Session, Plenary Sessions, Spotlight Sessions, Australian Thematic Sessions, Integrative Sessions, Research Committees, Working Groups, Thematic Groups, Joint Session, Association of Sociology, Professional Development, Author Meets Critics, ISA Former Presidents, Ad Hoc Sessions, ISA Administrative Meetings, Social Events and Other Activities.

The conference begun with Welcome addresses by President of the International Sociological Association-Professor Sari Hanafi,

-Chair of the Australian Local Organizing Committee, Professor Dan Woodman,

-President of the Australian Sociological Association, ProfessorAlphiaPossamai-Inesedy.

-ISA Worldwide Competition for Junior Sociologists (Presentation of the Winners).

-XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology 2027 (presentation). The next ISA World Congress of Sociology will be conducted by South Korea Sociological Association in Korea -2027.

-ISA Award for Excellence in Research and Practice (Professor EmeritaRaewyn CONNELL, Faculty of Education and Social Work, University of Sydney, Sydney, NSW, Australia)

-Presidential Address. Resurgent Authoritarianism: Sociology of New Entanglements of Religions, Politics, and Economies by Sari Hanafi, President of the International Sociological Association

Thus the XX ISA World Congress of Sociology will focus on how sociologists worldwide can (and do) contribute to the understanding of the resurgent authoritarianism and analyze the new entanglements of religions, politics, and economies. It will also focus on how sociologists engage (physically and critically) in the formidable social movements we are witnessing today in different parts of the world and in a renascent civil society.

The XX ISA World Congress of Sociology in Melbourne, Australia, June 25-July 1, 2023 was in a hybrid format. It was strongly advice and encourages everyone to come to Melbourne and enjoy in-person participation in the Congress, on-line presentations will also be possible. Oral sessions will be a mix of in-person and virtual presenters, based on the presenters preference.
