Visit to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial

In today’s fast-paced world and fiercely competitive day-to-day living, young people have little time to reflect on our rich heritage and past. This is especially important when the country commemorates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (the 75th anniversary of Indian independence).

The fight against colonial control in India is a unique story that is not tainted by violence. Rather, a tale brimming with diverse stories of valour, bravery, Satyagraha, dedication, and sacrifice from across the subcontinent. These
stories are part of India’s rich cultural heritage and traditions. As a result, the unsung heroes do not have to define the lesser-known freedom fighters.

On 1/6/23, a team of 50 Sabarmati University representatives visited the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial as part of the Freedom Fighter programme, which was organised under the auspices of the UGC’s Panch Prakalp activity. The programme began with a greeting message from the University’s Provost I/C, Dr. Kirit Vyas, and Registrar, Dr. Jyoti Srivastava. All members traveled by university bus to the National Memorial located near Shahibagh (Ahmedabad) at 2:30 p.m, where a video based on the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was screened, demonstrating how Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was credited with founding a united India by unifying 562 princely republics.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s life is an inspiration to all, and he will be remembered as a pillar of pride in Indian history for all time. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Museum was set up in the year 1978 by Shri Babubhai Jasbhai Patel, the then Hon. Chief Minister. The museum was later enhanced in 2013 with the inclusion of interactive exhibits, under the guidance of Shri. Dinsha Patel and other members of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Memorial Society. Shri RS Patel with his vision and leadership significantly contributed to transforming it into a museum of international standards.Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon. Prime Minister of India, H.E. Dr. Kamala Beniwal, Governor of Gujarat and Shri Narendra Modi, Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat inaugurated the museum on 29th October, 2013.

The museum showcases artifacts and the belongings of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and also includes two multimedia halls that shed light on various aspects of Sardar’s life and work with interactive and experiential exhibits. The museum carries information in 3 languages – Hindi, Gujarati, and English for the aid of the visitors. The best attraction of the museum is the 3D sound, light and laser show, permanent setup, is a unique experience, the first of its kind in India that takes you back in time and narrates the story of our motherland, India.

The story outlines the Vedic period, the Mughal era, British domination, the freedom struggle, and the birth of free India. The show is a salutation to all our freedom fighters and martyrs. The show is a blend of the latest in technology with 3D building mapping projection techniques, laser projection, sound, and light effects, and a voice narrative. The event was organized by the internal team including Dr. Priyanka Bhatt, Dr. Rajni Chaudhary, Dr. Haresh Prajapati, Dr. Bharti Tiwari, Dr. Jyotasana, and Mr. Vipul N. Patel. The representatives returned back to the university campus before the official working hour at 4.45 pm.
